In these works I am exploring painting negative space. The layer paintings of ‘Ghosts’, ‘Portland’ & ‘Two Figures’ expand this concept by sequential ordering of objects within the picture space, this process reverses the ‘normal’ representation of recession through aerial perspective and instead of objects becoming lighter they become denser in tone as they recede in the picture space.
